Honors Global Scholars

Are you an adventure-seeker who is eager to change the world? If so, then the Honors Global Scholars program is perfect for you! The Honors Global Scholars program will bring together a select group of freshmen who have an interest in developing their global perspectives and competencies by combining coursework and co-curricular experiences at Georgia Southern’s Statesboro or Armstrong campuses in addition to a special study abroad opportunity for the program on Georgia Southern’s campus in Wexford, Ireland.

Wexford, Ireland is located less than two hours south of Dublin, Ireland on the beautiful southeast coast. Wexford has a long and important place in Irish history and was the departure point for hundreds of people who migrated directly to Savannah, Georgia in the 1800s.  The connections between our two regions are strong and are growing stronger with increased economic and cultural exchanges between Georgia and Wexford.  The clearest representation of that contemporary connection is the Georgia Southern University campus in Wexford—we are the first and only public university in the United States with a permanent learning site in Ireland.

Ireland is the only country in the European Union with English as its primary language and as such is an ideal site to explore a variety of global issues including politics, immigration, history, economics, sustainability, culture, and the arts.

The Honors Global Scholars program is open to all majors.  In the current globalized world in which we live, employers of all types are prioritizing global and intercultural skills when hiring.  As an Honors Global Scholar, you will have the opportunity to enhance those skills while in college and demonstrate them to future employers or graduate or professional schools.

Students selected for the program, in addition to the courses and co-curricular opportunities will receive a $2,000 annual scholarship renewable for up to 8 semesters.  To be considered, students must meet the priority deadline for fall 2023 freshman applications: February 1, 2023.  Incoming freshmen who plan to start in the fall 2023 semester can find more details about applying here

When you apply, you will be required to respond to this essay prompt:  What do you think is the most pressing challenge facing the world today? What could you do, as a student at Georgia Southern and after, to address this challenge?
